Welcome!
I’m David Fernandez, a graduate student at the College of William & Mary, and counseling intern at the Falls Church Wellness Center. I help adults of all ages, identities, and backgrounds create meaningful and authentic lives by providing a safe space to explore identity, practice new ways of relating to themselves and others, and overcome the things that get in the way of vulnerability.
As a queer, neurodiverse person of color, I recognize the importance of fostering culturally affirming spaces for the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. My holistic, collaborative, and person-centered approach invites you to bring your whole self into our sessions. This includes your cultural background, lived experiences, gender identity, sexual orientation, and more. I incorporate techniques from Internal Family Systems, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and relational therapy to help tailor our work to your unique needs, values, and goals.
Before beginning my work in mental health, I spent over three years as a clinical exercise physiologist in various healthcare settings. I had the privilege of being part of teams dedicated to helping people recover from cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and metabolic conditions, as well as different types of cancer. These experiences deepened my commitment to supporting clients to build self-trust and resilience - whether in the context of health challenges or other areas of life like relationships and wellbeing.
Whether this is your first time in therapy or not, I strive to create a safe and supportive space where you can discuss life's challenges, explore your strengths, and overcome barriers to living authentically. If you're ready to take the next step toward greater self-awareness, please contact me at 571-358-9432 or dfernandez.fcwc@gmail.com to schedule a 15-minute phone or video consultation or to set up an initial appointment. I look forward to meeting you!
