MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN

I’m Hana Liu, a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at William & Mary and an intern counselor at Falls Church Wellness Center. My work is rooted in the belief that true healing requires looking beneath the surface. I help people untangle complicated relationship dynamics, break painful cycles, and step fully into their authentic identities.

While my practice is filled with individuals, I also dedicate a significant part of my work to counseling couples and families. My clinical focus centers on relational trauma. This ranges from helping young adults untangle themselves from codependency and enmeshed family-of-origin dynamics, to supporting survivors of intimate partner violence, coercive control, and narcissistic abuse. If you are navigating a major life transition or trying to rewrite the scripts you were handed, we will work well together.

My style is direct, deeply relational, and psychodynamic. I instinctively draw from existentialism, Internal Family Systems (parts work), attachment theory, and narrative therapy. This means we won't just look at your symptoms; we will look at the root. We will explore the "shadow" parts of your experience, uncovering hidden patterns so you can reclaim your agency and author your next chapter with confidence.

When I’m not in the therapy room, I study and teach traditional Chinese kung fu and tai chi. This background deeply informs my practice: I know how to hold a grounded, steady space for high-intensity emotions. I believe that radical acceptance—paired with a healthy dose of humor—is essential for moving through life's hardest challenges.

If you are ready to do the deep work, I offer free consultations to see if we are a good fit.
